5-Bullet Friday: April 12, 2019

Message from Chamber President Gregg Moss

Our members work hard every day to make the Metro North region a great place to live and to do business. We thank them and salute them with our first installment of “5-Bullet Friday” – five things members of the Chamber did this week.

Member events

The Boy Scouts of America Denver Area Council hosted its 43rd annual Sports Breakfast this week. This year’s keynote speaker was Champ Bailey. The event raised tens of thousands of dollars to support the nearly 32-thousand youth members throughout the metro area including hundreds in the Metro North region. Carissa spoke to the sell-out crowd of 900+ people – she’s one of the first female Scouts BSA Troops in the Denver Area Council.

Member updates

The City and County of Broomfield conducted its annual economic review. The Metro North Chamber along with Broomfield’s economist reported that the area’s economy continues to thrive with no major concerns from this past year. Things look positive in the months ahead!

Member engagement

The Chamber’s Business and Government Affairs Committee heard from Senator Rachel Zenzinger as she explained how the state’s budgeting process works. Senator Zenzinger is a member of the Joint Budget Committee (JBC) and the crowd learned a lot about the difficult challenge of our state’s budgeting process. She predicts the week ahead will be a “Red Wedding” as lots of bills will die, because there’s not enough money to pay for them all.

Member appreciation

Another spring blizzard forced the rescheduling of this year’s Hot Projects event to mid-June. A new date will be sent out early next week. So, what do you do with the food meant for 200 people? Donate it to a great non-profit program. Thank you DoubleTree by Hilton Thornton for prepping the food and a huge thanks to Senior Hub and Federal Height’s Thrive Church for distributing it to their seniors and family in need.

Member education

The Colorado Business Roundtable and the Chamber teamed up to host a lively discussion about the future of energy development in Colorado. More than 40 business leaders interacted with our region’s legislators as they look for a positive path to future of oil and gas development in our area.
